All hailed for the crown Prince for his wisdom. Once Devavrata was able to saddle the adamant horse that was worthy of God Sun's Chariot and it became his favorite. While wandering the kingdom Devavrata saw the Shalva Prince with army crossing the Hastinapur border. Devavrata single handedly overpowered the enemy army like a storm. His arrows scattered the Shalva army and Shalva Kumar's arrogance was burned to ashes in the fire of his arrows. This marks the first battle of Devavrata. The story of Devavrata has just begun.

5)Return of Gangaputra: Devavrata
After Ganga left him Shantanu's life lost all meaning and direction. It was as if his soul had left him but the longing for his beloved remained. Whenever this longing tormented him he'd go to the river bank and search for his beloved Ganga. "As long as there is the breath of life there is hope in the heart." One day while wandering aimlessly King Shantanu found two children on a deer mat along with kamandalu which suggested they were the children of sage. He named brother as Kripa and sister as Kripi and he adopted both and left them with royal priest of kingdom.
After 16 years, Ganga returned to handover the crown prince, Devavrata to his father. Ganga knew the tradition of Kuru dynasty, that only merit can occupy the throne of Hastinapur. So Ganga arranged for Sage Bhargava to teach Devavrata archery, Sage Vasishta to teach him Vedas and Lord Brihaspati to teach him politics. After teaching all the wisdom Ganga left Devavrata with his father and departed.
